Hyderabad South and Central India’s biggest Expo – HIPLEX, International Plastic Expo, will be held at Hitex, Hyderabad on August 4-7, 2023. The four-day show will be organised by the Telangana and Andhra Plastics Manufacturers Association (TAPMA). The event is expected to generate business of Rs 500 crore, said Vimalesh Gupta, President of TAAPMA addressing a press conference here on Monday.
“Plastics among other materials are the easiest to recycle compared to all other materials. India records the highest amount of plastics recycling. Almost 70 per cent of plants produced are recycled in India. Thanks to the good rag-pickers system in India a major component of plastic waste generated is recycled. The per capita consumption of plastics is still low at just 32-35 kg when compared to the world average of 65 kg and the US consumption of 75 kg. This augurs good scope for growth,” he said.
When asked about the plastic ban, Vimalesh said: “Single-use plastics were banned a year ago. Despite the ban, we have grown tremendously. There is a problem with single-use plastics which is a very small part of plastics. There is no alternative to plastics. Can you imagine any other material such as blood sachets, or milk in glass bottles? The plastic industry continues to grow till such time there is a very good alternative.”
